Showcasing Research Strength and Performance with SciVal In-Person
Do you want to take your SciVal skills to the next level? Learn how to clearly show where research is thriving, how it’s growing and why it matters. This session walks through practical ways to profile departments, research groups and their research.
This workshop will feature example use cases to better understand how to use SciVal, including evaluating strategic growth in health research, faculty-level research reporting for leadership, supporting research visibility for small or emerging units, and showcasing research group wins.
By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:
- Work through practical examples to explore research metrics in SciVal relevant to their needs.
- Identify evidence of research strength and growth.
- Support strategic reports or leadership decision-making with data.
- Highlight research achievements using SciVal dashboards and exports.
Must be a Waterloo student, staff or faculty member to attend. This session is best for those who have some familiarity with SciVal. Please bring a laptop to participate in the activities.

Instructors
Laura Bredahl is the bibliometrics and research impact librarian at the University of Waterloo. She currently supports university leadership, faculties and departments, and the broader community in research impact and bibliometrics analyses, services, use and governance. She regularly creates, shares and presents reports to support strategic planning and decision making, grant proposals and celebrating research excellence at all levels within the University. She has a passion for working with highly motivated teams with a shared curiosity for digging into the data and illuminating the stories they tell.
Coral Markan Davidson is the customer success manager for Canada at Elsevier, where she supports academic institutions in using research analytics to inform strategic decision-making and demonstrate research impact. She collaborates with research offices, faculty and administrators to help them effectively navigate and apply bibliometric tools and data. With a strong background in research support and bibliometric analysis, Coral provides customized training, practical resources and hands-on guidance to empower teams in achieving their institutional goals. She holds a master's degree in both information science and French and is committed to helping institutions turn complex data into clear, actionable insights.
