Open Access Week: Geospatial Open Data Online

Geographic Information Systems (GIS) is a powerful, multi-disciplinary tool that is widely used across many industries. When paired with Open Data, users can explore data to gain new insights and a deeper understanding of the world around them.

This presentation will discuss at a high level what GIS and Open Data are, as well as demonstrate how to explore and view Open Data using an interactive mapping application.

By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Understand what a Geographic Information System (GIS) is
  • Understand what Geospatial Open Data is
  • Navigate within an interactive mapping application

No prior knowledge or experience with GIS is required to participate.
