Anti-Racism Reads: Never Whistle at Night In-Person

University of Waterloo Libraries is collaborating with Indigenous Student Services to host a spooky edition of Anti-Racism Reads, just in time for Halloween!

Please join us at Dana Porter Library for a discussion of Never Whistle at Night: An Indigenous Dark Fiction Anthology, featuring unsettling stories from various Indigenous authors. With a forward by Stephen Graham Jones, this collection builds on the belief many Indigenous people hold that one should never whistle at night as it can cause evil spirits to appear and possibly follow you home.

Emma Smith will facilitate a group discussion of the stories to explore a wide range of contemporary Indigenous experiences while getting into the fall spooky season. Read the whole book or only a selection of the stories, everyone is welcome! Light snacks and refreshments will be provided.

This in-person event has limited capacity; please register to reserve your seat. If you have accommodation requests or questions, reach out to libevents@uwaterloo.ca with your needs.

Please note: Indigenous Student Services will be providing free copies for up to 20 Indigenous (First Nations, Metis, Inuit) students. To secure your copy, please contact Emma Smith at er4smith@uwaterloo.ca
